The third set was a topsy-turvy affair, with the American serving for the match at 5-3 only for Schiavone to level, but Lepchenko broke again and then saved four break points on her own serve before finally taking it 3-6, 6-3, 8-6.
The victory means Lepchenko is certain to qualify for the US team at the Olympics, leaving Venus Williams vulnerable because Sloane Stephens, who is ranked lower at the moment, is still in the tournament.

ROSELAND - The first improvement project undertaken by the county in Essex County Becker Park, which has been left undeveloped
since it was acquired by the county in 1969, was announced n Thursday, May 31.
The $857,000 project includes the rehabilitation of the Locust Avenue
Bridge, which provides primary access into the park. In addition, a water
line will be installed across the bridge to bring water to the park, two
pavilions will be installed to provide covered seating areas for the public, and benches and trash receptacles will be installed.
Boswell Engineering from South Hackensack was awarded a $142,000
professional contract to design the improvements. Let It Grow from River Edge, was awarded a publicly bid contract for $857,000 to perform the construction work. The Essex County Department of Public Works is working with the contractors to address questions and keep the project on schedule.
The improvement plan is funded with a New Jersey Green Acres grant received by the Becker Park conservancy and a grant from the Essex County Recreation and Open Space Trust Fund. Work is scheduled to be completed by the fall of 2012.
"Essex County currently partners with 33 volunteer conservancy groups that give us input about the individual parks they sponsor. Working with the Becker Park Conservancy, we developed this plan to improve the public's access to the park so more people would be able to enjoy the undeveloped land," Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo, Jr., said. "These relationships have helped the county revitalize our historic park system and make sure our facilities continue to meet the needs of the community."
Essex County Becker Park is 146.73 acres and was once part of the Becker Farm, which used the fields to grow crops and graze dairy cattle. Using county, state and federal funds, Essex County purchased the property in 1969 and the land has been undeveloped since then. The park is contiguous with Essex County Riker Hill Art Park and Essex County West Essex Park.

'Someone shoot me if I hear "babez" one more time': TOWIE star's fury as pilot tweets insults about her on flight - Daily Mail

Protest: Chloe Sims was travelling with her daughter
A star of reality television series The Only Way Is Essex has complained to budget airline Ryanair after an off-duty pilot posted derogatory Twitter messages about her.
Chloe Sims, 30, was flying from Stansted to Tenerife with her seven-year-old daughter Madison last Sunday.
But shortly before take-off, off-duty Ryanair pilot Mick Roche, a fellow passenger on the flight, began posting a series of tweets, telling his followers on the micro-blogging site: ‘Sitting beside Chloe from only Way Is Essex [sic]. I wish she would stop talking. This is going to be a long flight back to Tenerife.’
He added: ‘Someone shoot me... if I hear [the word] babez one more time.’
The messages, which have since been removed from Mr Roche’s Twitter page, triggered a series of responses from his followers. One friend, Paul Fitzpatrick, tweeted: ‘Seriously?’
He then posted a highly offensive comment suggesting that Mr Roche would sleep with Miss Sims by the end of the flight.
Mr Roche, who was wearing his Ryanair uniform and name badge, replied: ‘Nah, her kid is between us. Google her and check out her lips #trout.’
Another Twitter user, posting under the name Wendie, then asked: ‘Are her ***** as humongous as they look on TV?’ Roche replied: ‘Yeah, they are decent to be fair.’
A representative for Miss Sims, one of most popular stars of The Only Way Is Essex, has now written to Ryanair complaining about Mr Roche’s behaviour.
The letter, which has been passed to The Mail on Sunday, reads: ‘I am shocked and appalled that he would discuss a passenger’s sexual appearance with someone publicly on a social networking site.
Budget airline: Off-duty pilot Mick Roche started tweeting shortly before takeoff on the Ryanair flight
‘Regardless of whether Chloe is on a TV show or not, she should be treated with the same respect as any other passenger.
‘Needless to say Chloe and myself are completely appalled by your pilot’s behaviour. Obviously we would think twice about flying with Ryanair again.
‘I feel that he completely misrepresented your airline and as a pilot should know better than to do something like this. These actions are those of a person with no professionalism.
‘As far as I am concerned, when he is wearing full uniform on a flight he is on duty and a representative for your company.’
Despite Mr Roche’s claims, the star’s spokesman said Miss Sims was sitting ten rows away from him and had no interaction with him during the four-and-a-half-hour flight to Tenerife.
A spokesman for the airline told The Mail on Sunday: ‘Ryanair is not responsible for the behaviour of off-duty crew.’
