Bognor Golf Club hosted the Carol Mary junior county scratch team competition which brought together 48 of the best young juniors from across the county, including some England squad players.
The aim was for each of the four regions – north, south, east and west - to field their two strongest players in each age group, under-21s, 18s, 16s, 14s, 12s and girls.
The west team included three juniors from Bognor – Jordan Vincent, Jake Stoneham and Hayley Mackay.
Jordan won the under-16 category with a gross 69, the best overall score of the day. Jake won the under-12 class with a gross 86 and Hayley came second in the girls’ category.
All three played well in windy conditions, helping the west secure a team victory by more than 50 shots.
Meanwhile, there was an entry of 44 at Bognor for the men’s Saturday Stableford off the white tees.
The winner with 42 points was Matt Batchelor, second was Roger Leverton on 38, Richard Beresford was third on 36 and Jez White was fourth on 35.
The same number took part in a midweek Stableford off the white tees. Peter Lott was the winner on 40 points, ahead of Cliff Willis on 38 and Richard Hedge on 37, on countback from John Owen.
A total of 15 took part off the yellow tees. Mike Wilson was the winner with 40 points, ahead of Richard Kaemena with 35.
Ninety-two took part in the men’s spring invitation 18-hole competition. The guests came from 33 different clubs, from as far afield as Poole, Sidcup and Surbiton.
Seven were from Littlehampton and four of them, partnering their Bognor hosts, were among the top best scores of the day.
Winners with 43 points were Gordon Catt (Bognor) and John Taylor (Littlehampton) on countback from Peter Lea (Bognor) and Keven Catherall.
On 42, Alan Simmonds (Bognor) and Chris Woods were third on countback from Ian Pettie (Bognor) and John Taylor-Stoakes. Nearest the pins were all Bognor members - Andy Bence at the fifth, Bill Houlton (tenth) and Don Burgess (16th in two).
The ladies at Bognor were competing for the Shotgun Trophy, a four-ball better-ball competition played off three-quarters handicap.

COWDRAY PARK
Cowdray Park seniors entered a team of four in the Pyecombe veterans’ team invitation, a competition they have won and finished second in the previous two years. The competition is a team Stableford with the best three of four scores to count.
Nine other visiting clubs took part with players being sent off in threes, with one home player accompanying two visitors.
Cowdray’s players scored 106 points, five more than their nearest challenger. Roy Penrose scored 34 Gordon Kendall 32, Allen Sibley 30 and David Heard 40 – Heard also being the winner of the visitors’ individual prize by five points.
Cowdray’s ladies played in the Ping four-ball better-ball competition.

A dull, but dry, day greeted Cowdray Park seniors when they entertained a strong team from the West Surrey Sages in their latest home match, which ended 4-4.
The early matches were all close and the match was nicely poised at 2-2. Then came an outstanding 6&5 win by Peter Clarke and Mike Holden for Cowdray followed by a narrow 2&1 defeat of Richard Keep and David Wickham to level matters again.
In-form Cowdray duo Bill Brownlee and John Start posted a stunning 8&6 victory over Terry Smith and Derek Pitt but the Sages took the final leg over Cowdray’s Mike King and John Smith.

The sun came out to greet Cowdray Park seniors and their guests from Littlehampton, with the course in superb condition.
Cowdray continued their recent fine run with a 6-2 win, a bigger margin than recently achieved.
Match Manager Rob Doney and partner Trevor Edwards led the way with a stunning 6&5 win, while visitors’ captain John Brindley sank a 30ft putt from the fringe on the sixth hole.

Cowdray ladies played a 36-hole medal competition for the Wakeham Trophy, held over two days.
The winner was Wendy Street with a combined score of 145, followed by Marilyn Davis and Debbie Cheasley both on 148.
The first-round winner was Wendy with nett 73, on countback from Debbie. Second-round winner was Marilyn 72, beating Wendy on countback.
GOODWOOD
The Golf At Goodwood Academy is holding an open weekend this Saturday and Sunday.
Activities include children’s coaching for all ages and abilities, with teaching on swing, chipping and putting, with a five-hole pitch and putt challenge and skills test.
There’s beginners’ group coaching – an introduction to golf for all those who would like to try or have not played for a long time and would like start again.
And there is one-to-one coaching for golfers thinking of having lessons.
Sunday includes family golf – lessons for families who want enjoy the game together.
The weekend finishes with a five-hole Texas scramble competition for families.
Each session is free of charge and open to all levels of player, but as places are limited, telephone 01243 755133 to book in advance.
There will be discounted offers during the weekend and courses for beginners and juniors running throughout the summer and rest of the year.
AVISFORD PARK
In the midweek medal, Mark Walden won with a nett 69.
On captains’ day, an individual Stableford and a team best-three-scores competition were held. Winner of the individual was Paul Rosin with 41 points ahead of Nicholas Finneran with 40. Third was Richard Keates (39), fourth on countback was Lee Passey (38) and fifth was Rodney West.
Team winners were Stephen Porter, Richard Burtenshaw, Richard Keates and Jeremy Newman and the runners-up were Paul Napier-Raikes, Lee Passey, Michael Dunn and Graham Twine.
Winner of the ladies’ competition was Mary Boulter and runner-up on countback was Elizabeth Whitney with 33.
Longest drive on the fifth came from Lee Passey and the nearest the pins were won by Elizabeth Whitney on the second, Ian Franklin on the 13th, Bob West on the 14th and Rob Peach on the 18th.
Nearest the pin in two on the 15th was won by Paul Napier-Raikes.
Chris Wall, the club captain, thanked everyone who made it a very enjoyable day.
