Witness appeal after Paisley shop worker stabbed - BBC News

Witness appeal after Paisley shop worker stabbed - BBC News

Detectives investigating the attempted murder of a shopkeeper in Paisley have appealed for witnesses.

A 48-year-old man remains in a critical condition after being stabbed by a male attacker in the Sunshine Grocers on Green Road on Friday afternoon.

Police said forensic investigations, door-to-door inquiries and examinations of CCTV footage were continuing.

Officers also want to speak to anyone who was in the area around the time of the attack at about 17:00.

Det Ch Insp Duncan Sloan said: "Sunshine Grocers is a popular shop in the local community, so it is possible that someone may have either seen or heard the assault taking place.

"I am particularly interested in speaking to a female, described as in her late teens with dark hair wearing an apron, carrying Aldi carrier bags, who was observed walking from the cycle track on Fulbar Road towards Green Road, Paisley, around the time of the attack.

"She may have seen something that could be relevant to our investigation."

There is no description available of the suspect but police said it was possible he may have had bloodstains on his clothing.

Hot and Humid Weather to Invade Windsor-Essex, Tuesday to Thursday - windsorite.ca

We’re in for a lot of heat in the coming days in Windsor-Essex.

Environment Canada says a very warm air mass is projected to arrive on Monday over southwestern Ontario and make its way across the rest of Southern Ontario through the week.

The heat is expected to intensify and spread over much of Southern Ontario on Tuesday building into a three-day heat episode. Monday’s high temperatures are expected to reach the 30°C or 86°F mark in Windsor. The mercury is anticipated to soar past 35°C or 95°F Tuesday and likely persist through Thursday, affecting Windsor, Essex County and much of Southwestern Ontario to the greater Toronto area.

Elevated humidity levels will combine with the high temperatures to give humidex values of 40°C or 104°F and higher. Night-time temperatures will also remain very warm and are not expected to drop below 22°C or 72°F.

This is expected to make for very uncomfortable conditions and moderate to high readings in the air quality health index.

Menards Looks To Annex Mt. Prospect Grocer - Journal & Topics

Posted: Sunday, June 17, 2012 5:00 pm

Home improvement chain Menards is looking to expand its Mt. Prospect store on Rand Road by taking over an adjacent grocery store.

According to Director of Community Development Bill Cooney, Menards has submitted an application to buy the Aldi grocery outlet next door. He said interior modifications would be made as well as minor expansion for an outdoor gardening center.

Menards has been located on Rand between Mt. Prospect Road and Business Center Drive for approximately 10 years, Cooney said. If and when expansion occurs, the Menards facility would span approximately 160,000 sq. ft.

Deputy Director of Community Development Brian Simmons said there are outstanding issues with parking flow that must be resolved before the proposed plans would be presented to members of the village’s planning and zoning commission.

Simmons also said Aldi is looking to stay in town by relocating to the vacant Staples office supply store in Mt. Prospect Plaza about a half-mile away near Rand and Central roads.

However, Simmons said Aldi has not provided a timeline on when they would move and begin operating in the Staples space.

According to Simmons, Menards’ plans will most likely not come before planning and zoning until the July meeting and could be delayed until August. Once heard by planning and zoning, the village board will be presented with plans for final consideration.

Jeff Abbott, spokesperson for Menards, said the company is still working on the plans and is unable to comment further at this time.
