Essex Police/Fire: Kids build 'speed bump' on Conomo Point Road - Gloucester Daily Times

ESSEX — Police responded to Conomo Point Road for a report of debris on the street Saturday at 5 p.m.

There, officers found that kids had apparently put rocks in the road.

According to police, the kids said they were trying to make a speed bump. Police told them to take the rocks out of the roadway.

Officers then responded to the road five minutes later for a report of speeding, and monitored the area with radar speed detection equipment.

A man brought a dog into the police station Saturday at 8:24 a.m., saying he had found the animal at the side of the road. The animal had no tags or identification and was handed over to the animal control officer.

Police responded to a noise complaint, Monday at 1:12 a.m. on Western Avenue.

When officers arrived in the area, they reported hearing nothing.

They were called back at 2:38 a.m. and found a house across the road from the Farm Bar and Grille was playing loud music. Officers asked the owner to turn it down.

Jockey Kent Desormeaux gets first victory since annoucing seeking help for alcohol abuse - New York Daily News

Jockey Kent Desormeaux recorded his first win since announcing on Thursday that he’s seeking treatment as an outpatient for alcohol abuse.

The 42-year-old Hall of Famer won the third race on Even Got Quiet ($26.80) in his lone mount on the card; it was his first win since taking the Blue Grass Stakes aboard Dullahan on April 14.

“It’s definitely a monkey off the back feeling,” Desormeaux said. “I'm thrilled. I’m happy and, hopefully, the opportunities will keep happening.”

Desormeaux failed a breathalyzer test on May 18, costing him his mount on <MC1>Tiger Walk<MC0> in the Preakness Stakes and Dullahan in the June 9 Belmont Stakes.

Dale Romans, who trains Dullahan, has said he will use Desormeaux again once the jockey completes his six-week program that begins Tuesday night.

“They better get what they can now, because he (Romans) said I’ll get everything when I get back and I’ll be back,” Desormeaux said.

It’s Tricky ($6.20) needed the length of the stretch to wear down pacesetter Cash for Clunkers to take the $400,000 Grade I Ogden Phipps Handicap by three-quarters of a length.

“We just did get there,” trainer Kiaran McLaughlin said. “From the three-sixteenths pole to the eighth pole, I was worried. She wasn’t there yet. She ran great. She’s a special filly.”

Chasing Cash for Clunkers from the start, It’s Tricky got up in the final strides to win for the eighth time in 12 starts.

Trainer Todd Pletcher blamed himself for the disappointing third-place finish by 3-4 favorite Awesome Maria, snapping a six-race win streak.

“I think I did a really poor job preparing her for this race,” Pletcher said. “We stayed in Florida too long, got rained on a lot, missed a couple of works down there. Then I tried to make up for it here and breezed her on a sloppy track. I really did a bad job preparing her for this race. It wasn’t her fault. I’ll take the blame for it.”

In other Memorial Day stakes action, Contested ($4.10) easily wired them to take the $300,000 Grade I Acorn by five lengths, winning her fourth in a row for trainer Bob Baffert.

Sent to the front by jockey Javier Castellano, Contested never had to look back, wiring them in 1:34.61 as the even-money favorite.

Better Lucky ($18.20) won a three-way photo over Regalo Mia and Zultanite to pull off an upset in the Grade II Sands Point by a nose. It was the first turf start of the 3-year-old filly’s career.

“The last jump was pretty tight, I said, ‘I”ll settle for a dead-heat here,’” trainer Tom Albertrani said.
