County cricket: County to make changes for clash with Kent - Leicester Mercury

Leicestershire are set to make changes to their side for the Championship match with Kent, which starts at Canterbury today.

Batsman Jacques du Toit is recalled to the squad for the Division Two clash in favour of Greg Smith, while County have also signed all-rounder Preston Mommsen from Scottish Saltires.

Smith has struggled for runs at the top of the order so far this season, and head coach Phil Whitticase wants to see him rediscover his form in the second team, who are currently involved in four days of cricket with Warwickshire.

"Jacques did that and scored 124 in the win against Lancashire last week, so he deserves his chance," said Whitticase.

Mommsen, who bats in the top order and bowls off-spin, is the second Saltires player County have signed this season along with Richie Berrington, another all-rounder.

Having been born in South Africa, Mommsen will need ECB clearance before he can play, but Whitticase believes there is a real chance the 24-year-old could make his debut against Kent.

"Preston is somebody we have been looking at for a while," said Whitticase. "He played in the second team last week and took some wickets. He gives us options and could prove very useful."

Leicestershire have one slight doubt. Opener Matthew Boyce has been struggling with a slight back injury

He will have a late test on that, with Smith on stand-by for an immediate recall should the left-hander miss out.

County have just one win to their names so far this season, as much a case of the weather ruling the roost as anything.

They had the better of things at Derby before rain washed out much of the final day and they then built a winning position in a rain-hit match against Northants when they eventually had to battle for a draw.

County were also well in the match against Essex last week before rain wrecked any chances of a result on the final day.

For their part, Kent have also claimed a solitary Championship win and have five draws to their name in six matches as they, too, have felt the rough edge of the weather.

Their batting revolves around the experience of West Indies overseas player Brendan Nash and former England batsman Rob Key – while ex-Leicestershire favourite Darren Stevens continues to produce the goods at Canterbury.

Kent will field a testing seam attack, too, headed by England Lions player Matt Coles, while they strengthened their bowling over the winter by signing Charlie Shreck from Nottinghamshire.

Anglia Free Range Eggs wins Tesco contract - FarmersWeekly

Norfolk packer Anglia Free Range Eggs has started to supply Tesco with its free-range eggs.

Available in medium and large six packs, the eggs will be produced on local free-range farms and then packed in Anglia free-range eggs' packing centre in Attleborough. They will then be sold in over 70 local stores across the region.

"We are delighted that Anglia Free Range Eggs will be supplying us with our regional egg offer in Tesco and proud to be supporting a new local business," said Simon Dryell, local sourcing buyer for Tesco.

Anglia Free Range Eggs was established in 2010, by local businessmen Harry Irwin and Peter Davidson, both of whom have a long history in agriculture.

"Tesco's support of us as a business has been invaluable," said Mr Irwin. "We are a relatively new business and we have invested heavily to ensure our farms and facilities operate to the highest standard. It is heartening to have that recognised, especially by a business like Tesco."

All the eggs are produced to both Lion and RSPCA Freedom Food standards.

Kent Police to tackle anti-social behaviour in Medway - Kent News

Police received complaints from residents

Kent Police has introduced two new weapons in the fight against anti-social behaviour in Medway following complaints from residents.

The dispersal zones allow police to split up groups of potentially troublesome youths gathering in the areas.

The 24 hour zones, in the Liberty Park and Twydall Green areas of Medway will come into effect on June 1 until August 31.

The orders will give police officers, police community support officers (PCSOs) and Medway Council enforcement officers the authority to disperse groups of two or more people and tell those who do not live in the area to leave and not return for up to 24 hours.

Anyone who refuses or breaches the notice can be arrested and jailed for three months and/or fined up to £2,500.

The dispersal notice is a temporary measure and will cover a number of roads within the two areas.

The Liberty Park notice includes Weymouth Road, Sword Grove, Juno Way, Omaha Place, Gold Drive, Glimmer Way, Utah Rise and the green space adjacent to Utah Rise.

The Twydall Green zone will include Twydall Green and some rear access roads. It will also cover Benenden Manor and Harbledown Manor.

The decision to introduce the notices comes after an increase in reports of anti social behaviour.

The Community Safety Partnership, which includes the council, police and ward PCSOs have increased their presence and are carrying out house visits to those who have been identified as acting in an anti-social way around the area.

Cllr Mike O’Brien, Medway Council’s portfolio holder for community safety and customer contact and chair of the Community Safety Partnership, said: “These dispersal zones have been introduced after taking the concerns and needs of our residents into serious consideration.

“By giving officers the power to disperse groups that may be causing a problem, we want to be able to help reduce community tensions and show residents that we are responding to their needs.

“The Community Safety Partnership will not allow the actions of a minority to blight the lives of the law abiding majority and I am confident this step will help us to improve the quality of life for residents in these areas.”

Rachel Adams, Medway police commander and vice chair of the Community Safety Partnership said: “The dispersal orders form part of a number of enforcement tactics being used by Medway Police to tackle anti-social behaviour in these identified areas.

“The local neighbourhood teams are attending all incidents of anti-social behaviour and take responsibility for looking at options and solutions for long term problem solving within their local communities, in conjunction with our colleagues from Medway Council. We will deal robustly with the minority of individuals who persist in disrupting the lives of people within their community and where appropriate, prosecute them for relevant offences.”

Dispersal notice posters highlighting the designated areas will be placed in the two zones.
